You Think Yoga is Boring? Think Again.

Are you looking for a leisure sport that is worthwhile, yet is low in intensity but is full of excitement at the same time? All you yoga lovers, or those who are just looking to try it out check out these fun, thrilling twists that yoga studios are incorporating into their classes. Some of them are a little “out there”. Of course, there is still the traditional yoga types like Hot Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, Hatha, still with all their normal awkward moves as well (unless you’re a pro and flexible, of course then you look super cool) but you wouldn’t have ever thought that there were additional awkward things that could be combined into a yoga classes. But hey! Awkward is fun and these classes deserve a shot!
Doga:
No, I did not spell it wrong. This yoga is actually called Doga and the meaning of it is pure happiness. YOU CAN BRING YOUR DOG TO YOGA WITH YOU! You’re stressed, the dogs stressed, so, off to Doga you go! (Seriously, another great reason to adopt a dog!). You not only get a work out from the moves taught by the instructors but you are also going to get a work out from trying to keep the pup from wondering off. Watch this video to see how adorable these classes are! http://www.dogadog.org/

Co-ed Nude:
These classes are absolutely not sexual in any way. However, I don’t know about you, but I don’t think I could be this “close” to my workout groups… I can’t even imagine going to one of those naked swimming beaches. No judgement though if you feel like stretching naked along with other naked goers. It kind of sounds freeing. There is a Naked Yoga Studio in the state of New York in case this one interests you!

Stiletto Yoga: This honestly sounds a little scary… have you ever tried to run in heels? Can you imagine doing yoga in the tallest heels of them all? I get the concept though. The creator believed that doing yoga helps you to be better able to commit to your heels. What’s interesting enough is she believes that with this yoga foot workout anyone of any age can continue to wear those beautiful tall babies out! If you want to get some more information on this concept watch this video from Huffington Post http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/01/21/stiletto-yoga-yamuna-zake_n_4638547.html.
SUP Yoga: SUP is the abbreviation for Stand Up Paddle Board. Have you tried to stand on a paddle board before and not fall into the water? It’s a difficult task to master. However, this sounds like a fun class! Falling off the paddle board a few times, creating a splash, and having to try really hard to get back on just gives you a feeling of being a little kid again. Plus, when you think about it, having to do all of that is a workout itself on top of the relaxing stretching. If you’re anything like myself you love doing yoga, but you love being on a lake more. Now, you can do both! I need to check this out this summer. If this is not somewhere on Lake Michigan, I need to introduce it myself!

Horseback Yoga:
No mats required for this interesting yoga style. You do all the poses right on your horses back. It’s one way to become closer to your horse but I truly hope it doesn’t decide to buck, or dash off with no warning.

If you aren’t a traditional yoga lover, and you are looking for a yoga style that is more exciting, then take a minute and research these cool classes around you. There are so many other weird, eccentric yoga classes that I recommend trying just because they sound like a blast, yet very interesting. There is Laughter Yoga, 80’s Vogue Yoga, yoga with goats, throwing a tantrum while stretching, karaoke yoga, and so so so much more. It seems like that you could incorporate almost anything into a
yoga class and that is kind of neat! This is one way to make the
idea of exercising more appealing.
Namaste!
