Do you like Kalamazoo, hockey, and quirky-fun events? If you said yes to at least one of those then you will want to check out the Kalamazoo K-Wings hockey games. That’s right Kalamazoo, we have our own minor league hockey team too! The players hit the ice at the Wings Stadium from the beginning of September to May. Throughout the season the K-Wings hold some awesome themed game nights that will make you say “whoever thought of that is indeed a genius”! This marketing staff sure does know how to celebrate the uniqueness of every human being and throw a party! Check out some of these nights that I assure you were a hit! There are a few games left in the season and a flash-back night you won’t want to miss! If you do not see any that interest you, there are plenty more where this came from for you to check out for next season.

PUCKS AND PAWS
This event is for all you dog lovers who wish you could bring your furry friend with you wherever you go. Do you think they like hockey? If so, K-Wings does a Pucks and Paws night. You can bring your Pup with you! That’s right, re-read it again if you don’t believe me. What’s even more heartwarming about this is your doggy’s ticket sales goes straight to the Animal Rescue Project. I bet those of you who have been looking for a justifiable reason to tell their significant other or parents that you are getting a dog are saying “YES, this is the information I needed to put this biscuit in the basket”. (Not going to lie- I googled hockey terminology and this came up. Even if it doesn’t make sense it seems fitting, right?)
POKEMON GO
Were you a part of the Pokemon Go craze? Fans could “Catch Em All” at the Wings Center. This was an awesome idea because this Pokemon trend was huge! The popular app brought together hundreds of people around Kalamazoo. So, why not invite them to find the good ones, not those Weedles! What a great way to nerd out with some good friends, Pikachu, and hockey!
ROCK-N-ROLL
This last event is calls for some ATTENTION: all you head-bangers, leather pants lovers, long poofy hair fanatics, and air guitar soloists! On March 25th, the K-Wings will be having a Rock-N-Roll appreciation night. The fans will be jamming out to 60s, 70s and 80s rock-n-roll and paying tribute to the music throughout the game. A little Aerosmith, Lynrd Skynrd, or some Queen is sure to make those hockey players twirl a little more and skate faster! BUT WAIT A MINUTE. That’s not all for this rockin’ night! Janis Joplin’s famous psychedelic Porsche will be displayed in the main lobby of the Wings stadium. You can give your friends or children an education on good music, pose in front of Janis’s sweet ride, and watch a good game of hockey! Now that’s what I call an event worth attending.

They’ve got all types of games for you to check out at http://kwings.com/. Days where kids can paint the ice, you can donate to a charity, receive free giveaways, celebrate with holiday themed nights, dress up in silly costumes, and just enjoy time with you friends and family. Some even include a deal off open-skate after the games.
In my personal opinion, the way the K-Wings market themselves is very genuine. They reach out to all groups of people. There is no one type of “Hockey Fan”, and K-Wings staff makes that clear. I have a lot of respect for the team and their motivation to give back to the community. This team dyes its ice pink to for Susan G. Komen and does small games on the ice with the fans to raise awareness and money for other charities such as the Animal Rescue and the Kalamazoo Strong Organization.
What an amazing team of people! Make sure to check out their website and plan a day to go with friends, significant others, families, or even your dogs!
